KOREMATSU CHOIR SPRING 2018

Spring 2018 Choir’s first class/rehearsal (“trial class”) will be Wednesday, January 3rd at 1:35pm. Sign-ups are welcome to consider/join in up until the second official class on January 17th. To secure your student’s spot for the Spring Session, submit $150 payment (total payment for all of the 16 class) soonest OR let us know your student will be on scholarship (or payment plan).  The City of El Cerrito Recreation Department has been asked to conduct a needs assessment to determine if the families of Korematsu Middle School would benefit from the addition of more program options after school.  Please fill out this survey to help us ascertain the level of need for more programs and the types of programs that would be most utilized.

The proceeds will go to support the Ed Fund and our mission to serve as a resource that aligns with the efforts of our partners to ensure that all our students succeed in college, career, & life. Recently, we awarded $20,000 in Bradley Arts grant to support 22 schools around the district to help fund their project.

KOREMATSU’S FALL PLAY – NO BODY TO MURDER

Under the direction of Ms. La Due, we have a brand new after school drama program this year, and thirty 7th & 8th graders are working onstage and off to put this production together. They’d love to share it with you! Tickets are a suggested donation of $3.

Come see Korematsu’s first fall play, “No Body to Murder” by Edith Weiss! In this show, a zany group of characters comes together for a stay at the Come On Inn. Before long, they’re dealing with thunderstorms, escaped convicts, and the realization that one of them might be… a murderer!

Come see this fun one-act show and support the talented students that have been working so hard, both onstage and off!

Tickets are a suggested donation of $3! Donations to our drama department will be happily accepted, but no one will be turned away!

TRAFFIC REMINDERS FOR EVERYONE’S SAFETY

Please drive around the school in a clockwise direction, so that you are already on the school side of the road when you get there. This traffic direction is assigned by the city. If driving down Donal, proceed around the corner to Norvell.

Please drop and pick up students in the white pick up/drop off zones on the sides of the school on Norvell and Lawrence. Pull all the wayforward to relieve congestion in the intersections.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED SATURDAY

Ms. La Due is looking for parent volunteers THIS SATURDAY, November 4th who are available to help build the set for Korematsu’s fall play, No Body to Murder. Students are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent. Please e-mail sarah.ladue@wccusd.net if you are available to help!

We are also looking for assistance from someone who has a truck to help transport a few furniture items that will be used in the set. Please reach out to Ms. La Due if you are available to help make our fall play a success!

After covering PTSA business, we will hear from Pietro Maida.

Sensei Maida teaches a Teen Ki-Aikido class though El Cerrito Recreation Center. In addition to teaching Aikido techniques, his purpose is to provide young people with tools to navigate challenges they may face in Middle School. He addresses how to handle peer pressure and bullying and he teaches how to increase relaxation and how to handle stress.

This will be a good meeting to bring your students to.

Preceding this, is the Band Parents’ meeting in the Band room, at 6 PM.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

8th grade English teacher Mr. Vedder wants to celebrate his 8th grade students who make it at least halfway on their reading goals this year, by taking them on a fun and relaxing end-of-the-year field trip. This is a huge undertaking and he cannot make it happen without the help of awesome parent volunteers. He wants as many students as possible on this field trip, so he’ll need around 30 volunteers, who have their WCCUSD volunteer badges. If you do not have one yet, there is an additional WCCUSD Fingerprinting Party this Saturday, see flyer for details.​

​Here’s the link to the sign up sheet if you will be able to volunteer for this. It will be in May, and Mr. Vedder is tentatively planning to take them to Kennedy Grove Park. Before he firms up the details, we’d like to see if there is enough interest in volunteering for this, so please sign up, if you will be able to go.

Help Raise $1000 for Korematsu at
Golden Gate Fields Racetrack
November 12

Korematsu’s PTSA and Band Programs have a great fundraising opportunity from Golden Gate Fields. We provide volunteers for hot dog, beer and mimosa sales at the horse races and we get $1000 and tips in exchange. ThePTSA and Band will jointly recruit volunteers and will split the proceeds 50/50.

Our date is Sun, November 12th and we only need to fill 4 volunteer slots. If you can work one/both shifts that day
